His acting debut was a small part in Mo’ Money which led to roles in other films such as Friday, Get on the Bus and The Players Club. He starred in The Bernie Mac Show which ran on Fox for five seasons. The sitcom received many nominations and awards including a Peabody Award for excellence in broadcasting and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing.
Mac suffered from sarcoidosis.
He passed away on August 9, 2008.
